Week 14- DST63504 Introduction to Pattern Drafting & Garment Making

LESSON OF THE WEEK

This week is a holiday week, so there are no classes for this module.

MISSION OF THE WEEK

The task for this week is to continue working on the final top for our final assignment. This is the final outcome for my final top.

During the process of making the final top with the actual fabric, it took me nearly five days to complete, which I never expected. For the calico fabric version, I only took three days to finish. Since I already had experience creating the top I designed, I assumed the actual fabric version would be easier and faster to complete. However, reality often differs from our expectations.

For the collar and cuffs, I had to add interfacing, which made sewing more challenging because any misplacement of the interfacing could affect the final outcome. The part I struggled with the most was the sleeves. While it was easier to overlock the sleeves on the calico version due to the uniform fabric texture, the actual fabric posed more difficulty. The sleeves for the final version were made of bandages and thin fabric. Since the bandages are stretchable, it was harder to measure the length accurately and overlock them properly.

Thankfully, my mother came to help me. Her experience in sewing garments made it much easier for me to navigate through the more complicated steps of the process and seek assistance when I got stuck.

Overall, this week’s experience felt quite challenging, as I had to resew several parts of the final top multiple times due to poor workmanship. This forced me to redo certain steps repeatedly. However, when I finally completed the top, the sense of pride and accomplishment was incredible. This is the first final top I’ve ever designed and made, and it marks the successful completion of my final assignment for this semester.
