Week 11- DST63504 Introduction to Pattern Drafting & Garment Making
LESSON OF THE WEEK
This is the week when we start our last assignment, which is to do our tops that we designed during the Introduction to Fashion Design module classes. Hence, the class of this week will be fully one-to-one consultation time with our tutor for our tops pattern making, as all of us are having different kinds of yokes, collars, hems, sleeves, etc. We showed him our technical drawing and told him about what we are going to do for our tops; hence, he can have an idea of what kind of pattern making we should make, and he also drew out the example of the pattern making that we need to do on a paper in order to let us remember and be more clear on how to do it.
Moreover, we also have Mr. Farid to teach us how to use the machine to sew the buttons and buttonholes. It looks easy when he did the tutorial for us; however, when I try it by myself, it’s quite complicated for me, as we need to measure accurately to make sure that the needle is pointing to our marking.
MISSION OF THE WEEK
We need to complete our pattern making this week for our tops so that we can start sewing them next week, as we need to sew the tops in both calico and actual fabric versions, which may take a longer time for us to complete. Hence, I also did the cutting fabric section so that I can start sewing during the next class.
However, as this is my second time doing pattern making, I have some confusing questions in my brain, which I can't solve with the knowledge that I learnt during the class. In this case, I chose to find some tutorials from online platforms, as well as asking questions from the lecturers who are available in the studio, so that I can have a clear idea of how to do it.
Furthermore, we also need to submit our collar shirt assignment next week; hence, we need to complete the overall collar shirt, including the buttons and buttonholes.
Videos of the process:Overall experience of the week is that I started to feel stressed as I’m a bit lost during the pattern-making section for my designed top, as there’s no tutorial on how to draw the pattern-making detail. Hence, I choose to watch some tutorials via online platforms in order to avoid making mistakes in this step, as this is a crucial step that might affect the size of our final top. I also believe that we will be getting more stressed and more tasks in the rest of the week of this semester, as we need to complete both of the tops in a one-month period of time; hence, I hope that my progress won’t be delayed in any steps in order to avoid rushing to complete a top.
