Week 7- DST63504 Introduction to Pattern Drafting & Garment Making
LESSON OF THE WEEK
Our tutor began the class by teaching us fabric cutting techniques, specifically focusing on how to cut both fabric and hard interfacing for the pencil skirt using folding methods. These techniques are designed to help us cut all pieces more quickly and accurately. After we completed the cutting, he guided us through each step involved in making a pencil skirt.
Additionally, he introduced us to the overlock machine, explaining its setup and use as a preliminary step before sewing the darts. Unfortunately, there were only three machines available, and all of them experienced issues midway through our sewing.
Our tutor then demonstrated the remaining steps, including how to sew an invisible zipper, assemble all the pieces, and attach the waistband, guiding us through each part in detail.

MISSION OF THE WEEK
Since next week is independent study week, our tutor assigned us the task of completing the pencil skirt. We are expected to submit it with a hanger, along with a file containing the final pattern and construction paper.
Overall experience of the week is that I feel frustrated and stressed, as it’s my first time sewing an outfit, and the process of creating a pencil skirt has been quite challenging. However, I’m hopeful that with the holiday week to work on it, my final outcome will turn out well.
