Week 10- DST63504 Introduction to Pattern Drafting & Garment Making

LESSON OF THE WEEK

This week, we will be learning on how to sew a collar shirt during lecture and tutorial classes. Since this is our first time sewing a collar shirt, most of us are unfamiliar with the process of sewing the overall shirt.

To assist us, Mr. Brian guided us through the process step by step.
Below are the links to watch the class videos for this week. As the duration of the videos are long, they are only available to post via Google Drive:

MISSION OF THE WEEK

This week, we need to complete 90% of the collared shirt and mark the button placements on the garment as we work to catch up on our progress. This will allow us to complete this assignment and move on to the next one right away.

My outcome:

Unfortunately, during the process when I was doing my overlock section for the inner part of the sleeve, it ruined the overall collar shirt, as the machine cut some part of it, which made the collar shirt not perfect anymore. Hence, in order to have a better outcome, I decided to redo everything again, including cutting all fabric pieces and sewing it again. Well, I think that during the sewing process, I must pay full attention to what I'm doing in the meantime, as well as be patient, so that I won't make the same mistakes again.

Overall, my experience this week has been challenging and stressful during the process of sewing the collar shirt. Compared to the pencil skirt, there are significantly more fabric pieces to sew, making the steps more complicated. I had to redo several parts, particularly while sewing the collar, as I repeatedly missed a step. This mistake prevented me from pulling the string out to create square corners for the collar.

However, my previous experience sewing the pencil skirt helped me during this process. For example, I applied techniques like using a magic pen to mark the seam allowance on the fabric. This ensured greater accuracy and helped me avoid repeated mistakes.
