Week 6- DST63504 Introduction to Pattern Drafting & Garment Making
LESSON OF THE WEEK
This week, we have our replacement class for the week 4 class. As Thursday is a holiday, we tried to do our work as quickly as possible during the Monday replacement class.
To start the class, our tutor checked our homework one by one, which is the men’s sleeve block, to check whether we made any mistakes or not before we made it into a cardboard version. Moreover, he continued the class by teaching us how to draw trousers for men’s versions. The process is different than I thought, as it doesn’t have any darts like women’s version.
Moreover, we also did the final pattern-making for the pencil skirt before we sew. Mr. Brian taught us step by step on how to do it. The process is quite complicated and tough at the same time, as it involves calculation and measuring. If we did wrong in one of the steps, we might end up doing the wrong measurement of pencil skirt.
MISSION OF THE WEEK
The mission of the week is to draw men’s bodice block, sleeve block and trousers block on cardboard, which is the last step, I guess, for the cardboard version.
Moreover, I also need to buy an A3-size file to compile all of my works into it, as well as hard interfacing and invisible zip for the assignment purpose. Hence, my mother brought me to an accessories shop which is located in my hometown.
Lastly, I need to complete the final pattern-making step for the pencil skirt that our tutor taught us during the end of the class.
Overall experience of the week was that the final pattern-making sections made me feel frustrated and stressed while I was looking at how our tutor did it, as it requires lots of calculation and measuring. I’m afraid of doing the wrong size pencil skirt at last. Hence, I did it carefully. I can’t wait for the next class to sew a top and pencil skirt for my assignment.
