Week 5- DST64504 Fashion History

LESSON OF THE WEEK This week, we had an online class for this module due to road closures over the past few days. To avoid many students being absent, it was better to conduct the lesson online. As usual, two groups presented this week, and their topic was the 19th century. Lastly, Ms. Maria gave us a quiz so that we could still learn something even if we weren't fully focused on the presentations or slides. MISSION OF THE WEEK There is still no homework for this week, as one more century is yet to be presented before we receive the briefing for the next assignment. Overall, I felt quite relaxed this week, as I could focus more on assignments from other modules since there were no tasks for this one. However, I’m also feeling a bit nervous because next week is the final round of presentations for Assignment 1, which means we’ll be starting Assignment 2 soon. Regardless, I hope the next assignment goes well and that I’ll procrastinate less compared to the first one.

LESSON OF THE WEEK This week, we had a replacement class on Wednesday morning because Ms. Melina was absent last Thursday. Therefore, we continued working on the calico version of our fashion look during both the replacement class and our regular class. All of us are required to complete the calico version this week so that we can have more time next week to focus on texture manipulation for the actual version. MISSION OF THE WEEK Our goal is to complete the full kebaya-inspired design. With the additional classes this week, I’ve already started sewing, which helps me progress faster since I still remember how to do some of the sewing techniques. This has allowed me to move through certain steps more quickly. However, I think the most challenging parts are the zip and the skirt. For the zip, I need to make sure it’s sewn accurately so that it works smoothly. As for the skirt, mine is flared and gathered, which means the pattern is larger and longer than usual. When I was working on the...

LESSON OF THE WEEK This week, our tutor started the class by explaining the timeline for the kebaya submission deadline and checking our progress. In conclusion, we need to complete the calico version of our look this week. Ideally, we should also begin working on the version with the actual fabric. Therefore, we can put texture sampling aside for now, as it can be completed after Week 6. From this point on, we need to fully focus on the kebaya look, as there are only three weeks left. MISSION OF THE WEEK This week, both the Fashion Project 1 and Draping modules are focused on helping us complete the calico version of our look. To keep my progress on track, I completed the pattern making and drafting on my own on Monday, as Ms. Melina was not around. Fortunately, Mr. Farid and Mr. Brian were available, so I was able to ask for help and learn how to start pattern making for the top. I spent the entire day working on the pattern drafting stage. Then, on Tuesday, with Ms. Melina present, ...

LESSON OF THE WEEK This week, my group started  off the class with our presentation, followed by Group 6. We presented on 18th-century womenswear and menswear. The structure of the class remained the same — after the presentations, we moved on to quiz time. Since I was already somewhat familiar with this week's topic, I was able to answer many of the questions correctly. MISSON OF THE WEEK There were no new tasks for my group this week, as we had already completed Assignment 1 and our presentation. I feel disappointed in myself because, even though I practiced my presentation the night before, I still didn’t deliver it smoothly. This made me feel quite stressed afterward. However, I also felt a sense of relief, as my group has now finished our presentation. This means I can take it easy for the next couple of weeks until Ms. Maria briefs us on the next assignment.

LESSON OF THE WEEK There will be no class this week, as Ms. Melina is absent during our usual class hours. Therefore, we will have a replacement class next Tuesday. MISSION OF THE WEEK We need to start draping and pattern making for our own designed version of the kebaya. However, since there’s no class for this module this week, we need to be more independent and take initiative. Ms. Melina might be busy or have other classes, so even if we’re unsure how to proceed, it’s better to give it a try and have something to show her next week. For the skirt, I managed to ask Ms. Melina for help during another class. As a result, I only need to draw one side of the skirt pattern, since both sides of a flared and gathered skirt typically use the same shape. At first, I was clueless about how to begin, but Ms. Melina suggested looking for references on Pinterest, which turned out to be quite helpful. For the bodice, I started with draping. Since my design is similar to Assignment 1, which us...

LESSON OF THE WEEK There will be no lesson this week due to Wesak Day, which is also a public holiday. Instead, we will have a consultation during Tuesday's Fashion Illustration module class. Additionally, Sir asked us to put all of our samples on the table and demonstrate them to our classmates, so they can gain inspiration, especially since some of them are stuck in their design development. MISSION OF THE WEEK We all need to complete all three samples, as next week will be fully dedicated to our kebaya progress. Therefore, we need to finish these as soon as possible. During the consultation, Sir suggested that I could add more blue-colored ropes or strings to make the design more interesting. Afterward, I went to Sunway Pyramid to purchase different color tones of strings and ropes to match and determine which would be most suitable. For my third sample, I will be adding jeans piping into 2nd sample design. Moreover, as we will be exploring more for the fabric texture or colour ...

LESSON OF THE WEEK This week’s class was conducted online since Ms. Maria wasn’t feeling well. Two groups presented their work during the meeting, one after the other. Once both presentations were completed, Ms. Maria summarized the key points from the presentations to help refresh our understanding. After that, we did some quizzes before the class ended. MISSION OF THE WEEK This week, my group needs to complete the entire mindmap for our presentation, which we will present next week. It’s not as difficult as I expected, as it only requires us to do research and summarize the information, including clear and detailed pictures. This is similar to one of my assignments in the Fashion Design module during my Foundation in Design. Since we will divide the work, we can work together as a team on this mindmap. This is the link to access to our board in google drive: https://miro.com/app/board/uXjVI7VxFi0=/?share_link_id=590024658150 Overall, I feel nervous about next week’s presentation....
